Recommended Law Changes

Is there any law that you want to see either eliminated or changed? If you want a law changed what changes do you recommend? Would you be willing to come to Austin to testify if I sponsored such a bill?

I have seen the Missouri Plan and I will respectfully disagree that they have less corruption in the system. The appointment process gives all the power to the Governor and that in my opinion weakens our ideal of 3 equal powers in our government, legislative, judicial and executive. I think the people selecting all 3 is a very powerful concept.

I would agree with you as we tried to do some of this with our Jessica's Law that I was a lead joint author on. We did set up the life sentence for repeat pedophiles. We also passed the death penalty but the Supreme Court has ruled that unconstitutional. When we worked on the bill we knew they could make that ruling and therefore separated the other portions of the bill so that if they ruled part of the bill unconstitutional the rest would survive as it does.

A person cannot just tell another person living in their home who is no longer welcome to leave, and have it enforced by police if they refuse. Because of "established residency" laws. Often it is an adult child or a boy friend who knows the law and uses it to get free living accommodations while abusing the home owner or renter.
